We designed What Happens Over Chai? for the conversations that go beyond “So, what do you do?” — and into “Who are you, really?”This psychologist-designed card game helps you get to know people (and yourself) in ways that are honest, surprising, and a little bit fun.Rooted in research on emotional intimacy, vulnerability, and play, each card is an invitation to connect — to ask, listen, laugh, and share. Whether it’s a friend you’ve known for years or someone you’ve just met, this game bridges the small talk gap and helps you discover what real connection can feel like.Because the truth is, relationships don’t just grow through grand gestures — they grow through small, curious questions… and a cup of chai.

What people say

Loved by thoughtful humans

Used it with a friend I thought I already knew. Turns out there’s always more to discover.

5/5

Took this on a road trip — ended up in the best conversation of my life.

5/5

I use this deck with partner and my best friend. It works every single time.

5/5

The questions sneak up on you — funny at first, then suddenly emotional. Brilliant design.

5/5

I brought it to a team retreat. We went from awkward coworkers to actual humans. HR should hand this out with laptops.

5/5

It reminded me that I can still make new friends in my 30s. Assume, Reflect, Connect — and suddenly, you’re not strangers anymore.

Behind the design

Behind the brew

We created What Happens Over Chai? after seeing how difficult it is for people to build meaningful connections in the age of constant scrolling and half-listening. In therapy, we watch relationships heal when people simply show up and talk honestly. This game was born from that insight — that conversations, when guided with warmth and curiosity, can change everything. Each card draws from evidence-based frameworks like CBT, emotional regulation, and attachment theory, but it’s packaged in the simplest way possible: through play. Because we wanted therapy to feel less clinical and more human — like catching up with an old friend over chai. That’s where real healing begins.
